Pastor Horst was born in Berlin, Germany and emigrated to the United States in 1953. He became a citizen in 1967 and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1967-1971. He served on the national board of Public Broadcasting Manager's Association while in secular service and currently serves as Executive Director for In His Name Ministries, a church consulting group in communication, budgeting, communication, budgeting, reconciliation and leadership training.

Christopher Pals, 23, has recently joined the staff of First Baptist Church Augusta as Youth Minister. He and his wife, Karen (daughter of Vaughn and Debbie Nagahashi of Bridge Creek), recently moved to the area from Roseville, Minnesota. The couple met at Northwestern College in St. Paul, where Chris graduated with Bachelor of Arts degrees in both Bible and Psychology. While at Northwestern, Karen studied Bible, Psychology and Studio Art. After graduation, Chris worked as an optician in the Minneapolis area. They are expecting their first child in December.

Chris feels that the following quote from Ephesians 5:13 is especially applicable to the church in America today: "You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love."
